The New Jersey Envirothon competition is a one-day event that takes place at the end of the school year, and is a dynamic hands-on Environmental Education Program for high school students.
Teams of students who wish to compete in the state-level Envirothon competition explore different natural resource related topics throughout the school year, including SOILS, FORESTRY, AQUATICS, WILDLIFE ECOLOGY and CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. As they strengthen their background in natural resources, students practice working in teams, considering information and differing viewpoints to reach a decision through consensus and teamwork.
One of the purposes of this program is to encourage students to become better-informed, active participants in natural resource management decisions and problem-solving`. The team that best demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of natural resources, as well as teamwork and communication skills, moves on to represent New Jersey in the Canon Envirothon competition which is North America's largest High School Environmental Education Competition. This multi-day event further tests the team's understanding of the environment and involves teams from all regions of the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 2008 Envirothon Competition was held on May 10, 2008 at Duke Farms in Somerset County. The topic for the 2008 competition was:
"RECREATIONAL IMPACTS ON NATURAL RESOURCES."
Clearview Regional High School sent two team to compete in this year's event. Team #1 placed 10th out of 45 teams! Congratulations!

South Jersey Tour Des Farms

Event Date: September 6, 2008
Pedal through some of New Jersey's most beautiful farmland in Burlington County. Get to know the diversity of Jersey’s agricultural production. Shop for local produce as you ride and we will pick up your purchases and deliver them back to the starting point for you.
Ride options are a 13 mile route; a 26 mile route; and a 50 mile route with stops at a cranberry farm, vegetable farms, orchards, nurseries, an organic farm, and a community supported agriculture farm.
The South Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council (SJRC&D), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the resources of South Jersey, is in the process of planning its second annual “Tour des Farms” bicycle ride. This ride is designed to raise awareness and support for the cause of South Jersey’s agricultural lands. Hopefully, The Tours will become well established as an enjoyable family activity with a focus on the uniqueness of South Jersey’s communities.
Proceeds from the ride will fund the Farming for the Future Mini Grant Program. The South Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to the protection and preservation of South Jersey’s natural resources.
